Not The Last Supper

Gambar foto ini semula saya lihat ketika baru masuk ke pintu beranda account facebook saya.

Gambar ini mengejutkan saya, menarik perhatian saya. Aha!

Apalagi, judulnya sendiri merupakan kemiripan dari karya aslinya; "Not The Last Supper".

"White but not Quite".

Ciamik..!

Tolerance but Refusing Food

During my living in Bali, I get into a new interaction with others of Hindus. Here, in Negara, we live side by side with Hindus. It seem the religious sentiment that recently arose among religious follower didn't take impact towards the religious community relationship in Bali.

In Negara of Jembrana Regency, majority moslem live in Loloan village, near by Negara City. Some are live in Pulukan, Medewi, Banyubiru, Melaya, and Gilimanuk. It is unique that moslem in Negara (Loloan) using a Melayu language to communicate. Some using both Melayu and Balinese local language.

In the center of Negara traditional market, we can see a kind of good interaction between two of religious follower Moslem and Hindus. We can make difference of who Hindus are and who Moslem. Hindus trader usually put a small sanggah (a place to put incense and flowers for worship) gaudy looked in a corner of their shop. Hindus speak Balinese and Moslem speak both Melayu and Balinese.

Some moslem work as servant for Hindus and so otherwise.

In every religious day ceremony of Galungan and Kuningan, my Hindus fellow bring us a color of food, cake or in Balinese language called ngejot.
We receive the food kindly, but back in our home we avoid to eat it. My parent in law prohibit me having the cake and food eating. "These (cake, food) are Hindus made, don't ever to eat it," they said.

It was happen one day as I tried to buy a traditional cake name Kelepon in Negara traditional market, my wife forbid me said, "that is Hindus made. I don't like it, even though it look so delightful. Be aware of Hindus made of cake and food."

According to them, those cake and food are unclean (not halal) for made by Hindus, while Hindus them self keeping pig in their home. Pig is a kind of animal that prohibited by Islam to be eaten (haram). Hindus eat pig meat, and made it as a main food in every ceremony. But, it is not certainly true that they made the food and cake by mixing it up with pig meat.

It is so strange to think that we avoid some kind of cake or food, and receive other kind, say like Kacang Rahayu that produced by Hindus home factory in Denpasar. We love to buy and to eat it.

***
In Lebaran day of moslem day ceremony, we do the same of ngejot, that is to bring the food to our Hindus neighbor. But, I don't know, whether they refuse to eat it as we did to their food gift.

Another example of refusing is as we to chose restaurant or rice-shop to eat. We, moslem, avoid going to Hindus rice-shop. But, it is conversely happen to Hindus. Hindus don't avoid Moslem rice-shop.

There is a rice-shop name Warung Barokah in Negara which is crowded visit everyday both by Moslem and also Hindus. Hindus comfortably eating the food of moslem Barokah rice-shop without any prejudice.

I will note here, the phenomena of avoiding Hindus food by Moslem indicating a syndrom of majority. Moslem as majority desire to show its power by prohibiting the Hindus food. However, it happen under consciously. Really!

Indomie

My wife served my dinner by cooking a simple menu, mie (indomie). She just need to heat water, pour the flavoring into the bowl and wait a few minute. My wife said, if only we live in dormitory, we must be having breakfast to dinner with indomie.

Mie is an instant food and less nutrition. I sometime quest about its magic flavoring taste; the maker or producer of mie understand the taste of whole citizen. This food suitable for all taste. Remember its advertorial jingle on tv:

(from Sabang to Merauke, from Timor to Talau, Indonesia is my homeland, Indomie my favorite)

Mie instant now with color of brand, Indomie, Sedap mie, Salam mie, Sari Mie, Mie Gelas and many others, become a second menu in our home. It is sold in hypermarket to small shop. We could find it everywhere. Its also become an emergency food, while we run out of food stock or on the way of traveling.

We consume its commercial advertisement on television every day. Although it is not our main food, and it couldn't make stomach full-satisfied, but we depend on it. !
